A little History
1896: A Swiss company introduces a first generation patent in Zurich Switzerland for a waterless urinal
1983: Addicom Introduces the Swiss Urinal into South Africa during the height of a drought. This waterless urinal is accepted very well in the local markets around Johannesburg. Addicom maintains the urinals installed in and around Johannesburg, the urinals installed further away are maintained by the clients. As maintenance is a swear word in Africa these urinals in outlying areas do not perform so well as their maintenance is neglected

Early 90ties:
Waterless Urinals are introduced into USA with very similar design as the Swiss one by a company called American Waterless.

Middle 90ties: A second company in the USA is introducing a No Flush urinal based on a derivative of the original Swiss Patent. The drain part is arranged asymmetrically, introducing additional friction which results in an unfavorable hydrodynamic condition and furthering the settlement of sludge.
All above traps use a sealing liquid to achieve an odor free environment.
A further patent based on a flat tube is introduced by a British company called Hepworth.
They dropped the idea of using these elements in waterless urinals as they tend to gather sludge formed by urine. However they market their invention with great success as drains for sinks etc.
A further invention for waterless urinals was introduced by the Swiss company Urimat. Instead of using a sealing liquid they introduced a float, activated by a magnet to open the drain wile in use.

End 90ties The marketing in South Africa of the Swiss urinal by Addicom commenced declining drastically attributable, to a certain extent, to the companies philosophy
“we want to serve our clients with the best product available
but the Swiss system was not the best any more”.
End 90ties to 2002: We searched for a product which guaranteed a considerable reduction in maintenance. In the following two years we tried a multitude of systems mainly at Wits University (Johannesburg South Africa) with the full blessing of the then Director of Cleaning and Catering. Towards end 2002, after extensive research and tests at our premises we registered a patent called "curtain valve" and introduced it at Wits university in 2003. We improved in the following our system constantly until we had our final product up to world standards in mid 2006. We commenced marketing it as the EcoSmellstop system world wide. .
We highly apreciate and thank Wits university for allowing us to run trails in a university environment.

The EcoSmellstop system has, thanks to the physical laws, quantified by Bernoulli, self cleaning properties.
This reduces the maintenance to a bare minimum.
